If you do not attach files when grading assignments in Blackboard you can disregard this notice.
Multiple instructors and students have reported that documents attached by the instructor when grading an assignment in Blackboard cannot be opened and return an error message. There are several ways for an instructor to attach a document using the Feedback to Learner textbox tools in the grading pane in Blackboard, and while this does not happen every time a document is attached, many of these techniques can result in this error. Additionally, we have found that grading with a rubric can also be a factor in this issue.
KU IT has reported this issue to Blackboard and we are waiting for a software update to fix it.
We have identified one way to successfully attach a document while grading an assignment that will not generate an error. Unfortunately, it relies on NOT using many of the options available in this grading view, including NOT using a rubric for grading, NOT typing into the Feedback to Learner textbox, and NOT clicking on the A icon below the Feedback to Learner textbox. Here are the steps:
1. Access the student’s assignment attempt in Blackboard.
2. Expand the grading column to show the Feedback to Learner textbox:
3. Attach a feedback document using the paperclip icon located just underneath the Feedback to Learner textbox:
4. Enter a grade for the attempt in the ATTEMPT textbox
5. Click Submit.
