Instructors can use the steps below to export and save an entire course, or specific items from existing Blackboard courses.

The 'My Courses' list can be customized to hide past courses. When looking for older courses you can search the complete list of your Blackboard courses and reveal them:
- Click the My Blackboard tab at the top of the page.
- Put your cursor on the words My Courses and click the gear icon on the right: screenshot.
- On the Personalized: My Courses page, all of your Blackboard courses are listed. The checkbox to the left of a course name determines whether that course will be displayed.
- To display: click the checkbox to fill all the boxes for this course’s row.
- To hide: click the checkbox again to empty all the checkboxes in that row.
- To display: click the checkbox to fill all the boxes for this course’s row.
- When you are done making changes on this page, click the blue Submit button at the bottom of the page.
Optional: At the top of the page, under TERMS, click the checkbox Group by Term to have courses grouped by semester. Once this option is selected you can display or hide an entire semester’s courses using the checkbox to the left of that semester.
PLEASE NOTE: graduate classes and undergraduate classes are listed separately. For example, if you taught both grad and undergrad classes in Spring 2021, you will see two rows for that semester: '2021 Spring Graduate' and '2021 Spring Undergraduate'.
You can also hide/reveal each individual course using the complete Courses you are teaching list that starts below the list of semesters.
- On the lower left Control Panel menu, expand the Packages and Utilities section and click Export/Archive Course.
- On the Export/Archive Course page, click Export Package on the Action Bar.
- In the Select Course Materials section, either click Select All or select the checkboxes for each course area and tool to export.
- To copy everything except for the old announcements, click Select All, then un-check the Announcements checkbox.
- Blogs, Journals, Rubrics and Wikis will not copy correctly to Canvas and can also be un-checked.

- Click Submit.
The system begins to create the course package. This may take a few minutes depending on how much content is in the course. When the package is complete, you will receive an automated email. On the Packages and Utilities, Export/Archive Course page, click the Refresh button to see the course package link. Click this link and the ZIP file will start downloading.
Import the course content into Canvas: Import to Canvas, start at step 9.
Request a new course in Canvas to import the content to: Canvas Course Creation Request Form.
You can download files from the Content Collection in a Blackboard course.
You can export the Blackboard Grade Center as an Excel file. Any downloaded student or grade data should be stored and handled appropriately.
- In the lower left Control Panel menu, click Grade Center, Full Grade Center.
- Ensure the Edit Mode is On, found at the top-right of the page.
- Put your cursor on the Work Offline button in the upper right
- Select Download.
- Select Full Grade Center to be downloaded.
- Under Options leave the default settings (Delimiter Type: Tab and Include Hidden Information: No).
- Under Save Location be sure My Computer is selected.
- Click Submit.
- On the Download Grades screen click Download. The Excel document is saved to your computer.
- Click OK in the lower right corner to return to the Full Grade Center view.
To export all tests from a Blackboard course, use the Export an Entire Blackboard Course steps above and in step 3, select only Tests, Surveys and Pools to be exported.
To export one test:
- Enter the Blackboard course containing the test.
- In the lower left Control Panel menu, expand Course Tools.
- Scroll down and select Tests, Surveys and Pools.
- Click on Tests.
- Put your cursor on a test name, click the menu to the right and select Export to Local Computer.
- The process starts and a ZIP file is saved to your computer.
Import the test(s) into Canvas: Import to Canvas, start at step 9.
Tests exported from Blackboard will be brought into the Canvas course as quizzes in the Classic Quiz format.
To export students' documents:
- In the lower left menu, expand Grade Center, select Assignments.
- Put your cursor on the assignment column, expand the column menu.
- Select Assignment File Download.
- To select all documents, click the checkbox to the left of "NAME".
- By default, each student's most recently submitted document will be downloaded. If you want all documents for multiple attempts, click the checkbox for 'All attempt files'.
- Click Submit.
- Click the words in blue "Download assignments now."
A ZIP file will be saved to your computer. To access the documents, click on the ZIP file and select Extract.
To export students' test answers:
- In the lower left menu, expand Grade Center, select Tests.
- Put your cursor on the assignment column, expand the column menu.
- Select Download Results.
- Do not change the default settings.
- Select the blue Click to download results button.
An Excel document is downloaded. You may see a file format error message, click Yes to open the document. Each question and answer appears in a column. You may need to expand the column widths in order to read the questions and answers.
